International Migration Report 2017

 The International Migration Report 2017 (Highlights), a biennial publication of the department, states that 3.4% of the world’s inhabitants today are international migrants. This reflects a modest increase from a value of 2.8% in 2000. By contrast, the number of migrants as a fraction of the population residing in high-income countries rose from 9.6% in 2000 to 14% in 2017.

Migration and Its Impact on Cities

 The World Economic Forum has released a report taking a deep dive on migration and cities, exploring the types, causes and patterns of migration, the most affected corridors and cities, the impact on urban infrastructure and services, the solutions that can be employed and how cities can seek to future proof themselves to address this growing challenge.

 Este trabajo identifica un conjunto de lagunas y desafíos en materia de políticas migratorias, principalmente referidos a los derechos laborales - y otros derechos conexos - de los trabajadores y las trabajadoras migrantes.

Global Estimates of Modern Slavery: Forced Labour and Forced Marriage

 The 2017 Global Estimates of Modern Slavery focus on two main issues: forced labour and forced marriage. The estimate of forced labour comprises forced labour in the private economy, forced sexual exploitation of adults and commercial sexual exploitation of children, and state-imposed forced labour.

 This report tells the stories of some of the world’s 6.4 million refugee children and adolescents under UNHCR’s mandate who are of primary and secondary school-going age, between 5 and 17. 

Fatal Journeys Volume 3: Improving Data on Missing Migrants

 Since 2014, more than 22,500 migrant deaths and disappearances have been recorded by the International Organization for Migration globally. The real figure could be much higher, but many deaths are never recorded. Fatal Journeys Volume 3 – Part 1 provides a global review of existing data sources, and illustrates the need for improvements in the ways that data on missing migrants are collected, analysed and communicated.

Access to justice for migrant workers in South-East Asia

 There are estimated to be 20.2 million migrant workers originating from South-East Asia, nearly 6.9 million of whom migrated to other countries within the region (UNDESA, 2015). Although the labour rights and social protection benefits established for these workers are in many cases the same as nationals under law, they frequently experience unequal and discriminatory treatment in practice. 

GLOBAL TRENDS FORCED DISPLACEMENT IN 2016

idi euaBy the end of 2016, 65.6 million individuals were forcibly displaced worldwide as a result of persecution, conflict, violence, or human rights violations. That was an increase of 300,000 people over the previous year, and the world’s forcibly displaced population remained at a record high.

 The 2017 International Migration Policy Report is the first in an expected series of annual reports on international migration policy and refugee protection by the global network of think tanks or study centers founded by the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles – Scalabrinians. 

Global Report on Internal Displacement 2017

  The 2017 Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID 2017) presents the latest data and trends of internal displacement by conflict and disasters worldwide. In 2016, one person per second was forced to flee.
