CSEM - SCALABRINIAN CENTER FOR MIGRATION STUDIES

CSEM, the Scalabrinian Center for Migration Studies, is an international institution for migration studies based in Brasilia, Brazil. The Center was founded on March 25, 1988 and is linked to the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo - Scalabrinians (MSCS).

CSEM works in partnership with universities and other institutions to develop studies, research, consultancy, events and publications on migration and related topics for institutions, researchers, students and agents working in the field of human mobility.

MISSION

To foster, produce and disseminate scientific and interdisciplinary knowledge on migration and forced displacement and related processes, from a perspective of respect and prophetic promotion of human dignity and the leading role of migrants and refugees, towards a fairer world where no one is a foreigner.

VISION

To be a Scalabrinian Study Center of international reference on the subject of migration.

In fulfilling its Mission, CSEM is guided by the following Principles:

  • Attention to the diversity of culture, gender, ethnicity, religion and other alterities that mark the realities of human mobility;
  • Building a just society without borders, from the perspective of fraternity and universal citizenship;
  • Protagonism of migrants and adoption of a positive, realistic and structural vision of migratory realities in the light of Christian anthropology and ecclesial experience;
  • Promoting inter-religious dialog and communion with the Church;
  • Following the Gospel and the inspiration of the charismatic heritage of Scalabrinian missionary activity; with priority attention ad intra, in collaboration with and support for the mission of the other organizations of the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo, Scalabrinians.
